Hanna Instruments HI 84429-01 Titratable Acidity Mini Titrator and pH Meter, For Dairy Industry Review

Hanna Instruments HI 84429-01 Titratable Acidity Mini Titrator and pH Meter, For Dairy Industry Feature

  • Up to three-point pH calibration using three buffers
  • Manual or Automatic Temperature Compensation (ATC) eliminates need for extra calculations
  • Logs up to 100 samples
  • Replaceable electrodes and probe to prolong the life of the meter
  • Graphic LCD screen for readability

The HI 84429-01 is a microprocessor-based automatic minititrator and pH meter suitable for analyzing Total Titratable Acidity in milk. It features a simple peristaltic pump to ensure accuracy. The instrument employs a built-in algorithm to analyze the pH response to determine the exact pH endpoint, then uses this to make necessary calculations. The Titratable Acidity Determination is displayed instantaneously in user-selected measurements on the large dot matrix display. The meter calibrates pH at up to three points using three buffers (4.01, 6.00, 8.30). It features Manual or Automatic Temperature Compensation, and can log up to 100 samples (50 for pH measurement; 50 for titration results). The electrodes and probe are replaceable, prolonging the life of the meter, and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) features allow user to view last calibration data for pH electrode and pump.

Range is -2.0 to 16.0; -2.00 to 16.00 pH + or - 0.01 pH, with a resolution of 0.1; 0.01 pH. Temperature range is -20.0 to 120.0 degrees C (-4.0 to 248 degrees F) + or – 0.4 degrees C (excluding probe error) at 20 degrees C), with a resolution of 0.1 degrees C. The device operates on a 12 VDC power adapter. Dimensions are 208 x 214 x 163 mm/8.2” x 8.4” x 6.4’’ (H x W x D) with beaker, and weighs 2200 g (77 oz.).

There are two fundamentally different conventions for expressing acidity in dairy products—titratable acidity and pH. The pH is a measurement of hydrogen ion concentrations and the titratable acidity is the neutralizing capacity by a base. The titrator and pH meter eliminate the subjective endpoint color change detection determined by the human eye, and instead employ the sensitivity and accuracy of a pH sensor. The titration method is a potentiometric endpoint determination using a pre-determined pH value. These instruments are commonly used in the dairy industry.

Hanna Instruments manufactures analytical instrumentation and supplies, including pH meters, electrodes, chemical reagents, and buffer solutions. The company, founded in 1978 and headquartered in Woonsocket, RI, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 standards.
