Hanna Instruments HI 98172N pH/ORP/ISE Meter Review
Hanna Instruments HI 98172N pH/ORP/ISE Meter Feature
- Up to five-point calibration with seven memorized and five custom buffers
- Replaceable probes to prolong the life of the meter
- Manual or Automatic Temperature Compensation, to eliminate the need for extra calculations
- Portable, for use in the field
- LCD screen for readability
The HI 98172 is a portable pH, Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP), Ion Selective Electrode (ISE), and temperature meter suitable for field use. The meter features five-point calibration with seven standard (1.68, 4.01, 6.86, 7.01, 9.18, 10.01, 12.45) and five custom buffers. It can also measure with ISE electrodes on a ppm scale.
The instrument includes replaceable pH and temperature probes, an LCD screen, and Manual or Automatic Temperature Compensation. Diagnostics provide a reminder when a new calibration is necessary and a calibration range warning to notify the user if a reading appears too far from the calibration periphery. The diagnostics also monitor electrode aging and alert user when the electrode needs cleaning. It also has a Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) feature to view last calibration data for each range, logging capability of up to 50 samples on each range, and a PC interface.
pH range is -2.00 to 16.00 pH + or – 0.01 pH at 20 degrees C with a resolution of 0.01 pH. mV range is + or – 699.9; 2000 mV (+ or – 0.2 mV; 1 mV at 20 degrees C) with a resolution of 0.1; 1 mV. Temperature range is -20.0 to 120.0 degrees C + or - 0.4 degrees C (0.8 degrees F) at 20 degrees C (excluding probe error) with a resolution of 0.1 degrees C (0.1 degrees F). Input impedance is 1E12 Ohms and the device operates on four 1.2V AA rechargeable batteries. Dimensions are 196 x 80 x 60 mm/7.7” x 3.1” x 2.4’’ (H x W x D), and weighs 425 g (15 oz.).
pH testers measure the acidity or alkalinity of a substance and are commonly used by researchers, manufacturers, and hobbyists.
Hanna Instruments manufactures analytical instrumentation and supplies, including pH meters, electrodes, chemical reagents, and buffer solutions. The company, founded in 1978 and headquartered in Woonsocket, RI, meets International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001 standards.
